Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between coaching and counseling/therapy?

  • Often people engaged in therapy are working to disengage their past from their present. Therapy clients typically feel encumbered in the present by the pain of past hurts, or are experiencing a current traumatic situation in their lives, which leaves them temporarily unable to function at their optimal level. Therapy focuses on surfacing, understanding and healing psychiatric or emotional issues.

  • Coaching is for high functioning, successful people who want to accelerate movement in one or several areas of their personal and/or business lives. The coaching client focuses on gaining and applying new competencies and disciplines in the present that support him or her in building a powerful future. Coaching is designed to move clients forward to a greater level of personal fulfillment and the accomplishment of their desired goals.

How might I benefit from having a coach at this time?

  • You will gain more clarity about your personal values, passion and vision
  • You will create an implementation plan to help you actualize your personal mission You will become more effective, confident and personally fulfilled as a leader You will build a stronger personal spiritual foundation
    • To determine the specific benefit of a coaching partnership, I would suggest that we have a lengthier conversation to explore how the two of us working together might serve you at this time.

There are a lot of coaches out there, why would I want to work with you?

    • This is an appropriate question that would also benefit from us having a deeper exploratory conversation. During this time you would get a sufficient idea of how we would work together to determine if there is a good fit. In addition to a coach’s qualifications and results, it is of utmost importance that you select a coach with whom you feel you can generate a synergistic relationship. Your coach should be someone you respect and feel you would be willing to trust. You might also want to know the coach’s values and working philosophy.

    • Of primary importance to me are spirituality/connection to God and contribution/service. My approach focuses on unleashing the human spirit. Together we will explore your principles and values, what’s important to you, what you are passionate about, the purpose of your life and how you will express that purpose at this phase of your life. If you are interested in connecting your work to your heart, I invite you to consider working with me.

If I were interested in working with you, what steps would we take?

    • The first step would be for you to schedule a 1-1/2 hour complimentary session. This session would allow us to get to know each other at a deeper level and would also allow you to experience how I work as a coach.
  • We would use the session to determine if coaching is appropriate for you at this time and, if so, the primary focus of your coaching program. If you decide to engage me as your coach, I will have you complete and return a Client Intake package. The intake package will contain a contract and an assessment tool that will allow me to serve you better.
